summer is ending. i have had some awesome times and i am ready for the next phase of the year. i am impregnated with hopes of creative production in the months to come. may the rain fall and hold me indoors. i will be happy there with the things and the ones i love.

MAJOR TRIP

a trip to big sur via the redwoods, california coast and san francisco.

it proved to be amazing. 

NEVER AGAIN

i doubt i will be able to ever say this again. today i made coffee for lee ranaldo and poured some ice tea for kim gordan. this is a moment that if you told 12 year old niles was in his future he would have died.

SKATEABLE COAST

i went on a trip down the coast with some friends and hit the following skateparks along the way:

astoria

seaside

cannon beach 

waldport

lincoln city

bay city

toledo

florence

newport

 

then headed inland and went to bethel in eugene, or. finished it off with gabriel park in portland. three nights of camping. first time camping on the sands of the beach. woke up to misty rain and sand fleas. i saw some cutty kids at almost every park and had the best time. this summer is already amazing me. 

MOM

today i get a call from my mom telling me that our conversation on her recent trip out here has led her to decide to retire!

congratulations mom! time to do some stuff for yourself. you've worked hard for too long!

ST HELENS

mount saint helens erupted on march 20, 1980. i saw it closely for the first time via a spontaneous plan concocted with friends at a late breakfast outing. today it looked like this at the base.

HUGH HOLLAND

look at this kid. he does not give a fuck! upon a search for skateboarding photos from a time before i was even born i ran across photos like the one above by hugh holland. more than looking through a new issue of thrasher, transworld, slap or any other skateboarding magazine today, these photos get me excited about skateboarding; the carelessness of long hair, bare feet and no shirt. the epitome of youth. and the beautiful backdrop of sunny southern california. few things seem more carefree. now i am hungry to while away the days this summer skating with friends and soaking in the sun. 

FREEDAYS

yesterday proved to be rather perfect. i did get a cavity filled which was no fun, but it happened quickly and i appreciated that. enjoyed some hang out time in north portland with friends and eventually made it over to my friends' house to skate their halfpipe. super fun session and i emerged with a few new pains in my body that were well worth it. then on to a burrito and some coffee and the drawing party at the same friends' gallery, together.

here is a drawing i did thinking of the film i saw the previous night, sin nombre. yet the guy here loves jordan. didn't we all? the other drawing is a bizarro dave wein that i drew looking across the room without dave noticing. looks like a cross between him and an ol' chap named baney.

i went to the skateboard park in hood river today, the tree-friendliest skatepark i have yet to see.

we finished our time in hood river with a burrito and some coffee. i came home with a headache from all of the fun, took a shower and passed the fuck out. 

DESERT CAMPING

i finally started using this awesome sketchbook that ryan made for me on my birthday. 

this is what i woke up to today at smith rock state park, oregon.
